The Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church Day School is delighted to present

“In The Circle of Love” joint exhibition by Jamel Robinson and the MAPCDS Students

The Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church Day School invites you to the opening reception of “In The Circle of Love,” a joint exhibition of works by artist-in-residence Jamel Robinson and the MAPCDS student body.

In partnership with the Edwin Barbey Charitable Trust and the Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church Day School, multidisciplinary artist Jamel Robinson worked with ninety six students, all between the ages of two and five years old to create the “In The Circle of Love” residency program. Based on Robinson’s understanding of the MAPCDS ethos, which holds a strong image of the child as a capable being with endless potential, the artist set out to have the students respond to his practice of mark-making and music composition to create two professional installations as part of their very first art exhibition.

On May 9th, 2024, Robinson and the students of MAPCDS will exhibit their work to raise funds for the school and culminate the residency. There will also be a panel discussion and premier of a short film that encapsulates the heart of the residency made by Jamel’s Director of Photography, LaVonte Robinson, starring the artist and students.

Twenty five percent of proceeds from the sale of Robinson’s work and one hundred percent of proceeds from sales of a twenty six piece community installation made by the children and faculty will be donated back to the school. All of the works will live with the students until the end of the school year.
